If you are offering assistance over the phone, it might be difficult for you to find the right user in our dashboard without knowing their IP address or identity information.

You can use upscope.js to add a short numeric code anywhere on the page that will allow your agent to quickly identify the user they are talking to. Simply ask for the code your customer sees on the page, and enter the code into the search bar.

Show the code on the page

The easiest way to implement this is to add a lookupCodeElement  to the Upscope('init', {…}) function. This should be set to a jQuery-style selector of the element that should contain the code.

Example

<footer>
  <section id="support">
    <p>If you need assistance, call us at 555 333 3334 and quote code <span id="upscope-support-code"></span>.</p>
  </section>
</footer>
<script>
(function(w, u, d){if(typeof u!=="function"){var i=function(){i.c(arguments)};i.q=[];i.c=function(args){i.q.push(args)};w.Upscope=i;function l(){var s=d.createElement('script');s.type='text/javascript';s.async=true;s.src='https://js.upscope.io/upscope.js';var x=d.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];x.parentNode.insertBefore(s,x);}if(d.readyState==='complete'){l();}else if(w.attachEvent){w.attachEvent('onload',l);}else{w.addEventListener('load',l,false);}}})(window, window.Upscope, document);

Upscope('init', {
  apiKey: "YOUR API KEY",
  lookupCodeElement: "#upscope-support-code"
});
</script>

Programatically Showing the Code

If you'd like to show the code only when the user needs help, or you have a high traffic website where multiple people would end up having the same code at the same time, you might want to use our API to find the code and display it as you see fit.

You can find the code by using the following function:

Upscope('getLookupCode', console.info);

Example

<footer>
  <section id="support">
    <p>If you need assistance, call us at 555 333 3334. Click <a href="javascript:Upscope('getLookupCode', function(code){alert('Screen share code ' + code)});">here</a> if you are asked for a screen share code.</p>
  </section>
</footer>
<script>

Using the Code to Search for a User

Simply ask for the code your customer sees on the page, and enter it into the searchbar on the Upscope app.
